This e-learning course provides healthcare professionals with the knowledge and tools needed to identify, prevent, and manage Look-Alike, Sound-Alike (LASA) medication errors during the prescribing process.
LASA errors are a significant cause of medication-related harm and can occur when drugs with similar looking or sounding names are confused, potentially resulting in serious patient safety incidents.
Through interactive modules, real-world examples and a case study, this course explores the root causes of LASA errors, the high-risk medications most commonly involved, and the system-level strategies that can reduce their occurrence.
Learners will gain insights into human factors and best practices for safe prescribing, including promoting a culture of safety through reporting and learning from errors.
This CPD certified course is comprised of two modules:
Module 1: Defining LASA prescribing errors and the causative factors
Module 2: Minimising LASA errors and supporting safer prescribing
A prescriber video reflecting on LASA prescribing errors and a case study support the learning, plus references and further reading are also provided.
