This project aimed to increase the percentage of electronic repeat dispensing whilst addressing the medication waste that was resulting from managed repeat ordering services by pharmacies.
A task and finish group involving cross organisations was set up in the ICS for the North and North Cumbria including NHS BSA, NHS Digital as well as all local organisations e.g. LPCs, CCGs. This group led the development of a package of tools and educations as well as running multiple engagement events across 11 CCGs. A regionwide user group has also been established quarterly with over 120 member practices participating in the webinar eRD user group.
In March 17 the % eRD utilisation was 15% across C&NE ICS but following the project it had increased to 25% by April 19. The 10% increase in utilisation is far greater than the national 3.5% increase.
