A project review was undertaken by our Medicines Optimisation Pharmacists in partnership with GP surgeries across the Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire (BNSSG) area to review CVD secondary prevention lipid lowering therapy against current guidelines.
Overall, 72 surgeries across BNSSG completed this project. 1541 secondary CVD prevention patients were reviewed and of these 587 patients had their statin therapy intensified and 30 patients had ezetimibe added to their lipid lowering therapy. 10 Patients were referred to the Lipid Clinic for more specialist management.
This project was just the beginning of the local work on optimising lipid lowering therapy in our population. Collaborative working with the local AHSN and Lipid Clinic specialists continues. Guideline updates in line with new therapies, and training sessions for local clinicians continues to raise awareness and will help to drive the ongoing work on optimising our population's lipid lowering medication.
