This submission describes the outputs to date of the North East London Antimicrobial Resistance Strategy Group (NEL AMRSG). Its strategic partnership and collaborative working arrangements consists of multiagency partners, which includes Acute Trusts, Clinical Commissioning Groups(CCGs), Local Authorities(LA), Public Health England North East Central London Health Protection Team (PHE NECL HPT), NHS England (NHSE), Mental Health Trusts, Primary Care, Dental and Veterinary Medicine.
To date outputs of the NEL AMRSG have aligned with many national workstreams considered in the context of the local population profile and challenges tackled through a NEL AMS Action Plan, with an emphasis on AMS initiatives in Acute Trusts, Primary Care antimicrobial prescribing data monitoring, promoting hydration and the prevention of Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) in care homes, the latter forming part of the Enhanced Health in Care Homes Framework which aligns to the 288 nursing and residential care homes across NEL.
The NEL AMRSG is a unique group that facilitates discussions across sectors and workstreams across acute and community boundaries, which has enabled the sharing of knowledge and challenges in a variety of health and social care settings, ideas and resources, stimulating local AMS initiatives, and contributing to the local and overall national drive to reduce AMR. It has also ensured a London experience informs outputs of the national Regional Medicines Optimisation Committee on AMR.
