Back in March at the start of the COVID lockdown the Medicines Optimisation team found that there was a large amount of information relating to prescribing of medicines in relation to COVID-19 being released from national sources. It was decided to develop a COVID-19 Medicines Optimisation newsletter to collate all the latest information and updates for practices.
The newsletter was sent out on a weekly basis to all lead prescribing GPs, practice managers, practice pharmacists, dispensers, community pharmacists as well as leads from other community providers. The newsletter has evolved to include local service updates such as the development of the care home work, palliative care pharmacies service, recently asked medication queries, out of stock advice.
A dedicated COVID-19 resources section on the Medicines Optimisation page was set up where all editions of the newsletters, COVID related local guidance and national sources of information are published for practice staff and the public can access.
